2.1 Where do I get to know more about Linux?

General: http://www.linux.org/The mother of all Linux sites.
This is a great place to start if you have little to no experience with Linux.

Linux.org has a class on Getting Started with Linuxon their site an excellent resource for newbies.
This class is focused on moving from other operating systems to Linux.

The http://mandrakecampus.com/has an excellent course for users of Linux Mandrake.
They also have good coverage of the basics.

Documentation: The Linux Documentation Project at http://linuxdoc.org/
If you can't find the answer here it probally does not exist.

Debian users can check out Havoc Pennington's Debian tutorialit's a bit old but still relevant.
There is also the Dwarf's guideto Debian.
Both links cater specifically to the Debian version of Gnu/Linux.

Slackware users can check out Linux packages.

News: http://linuxtoday.com/, http://lwn.net/(Linux Weekly News), and http://slashdot.org/
All the news that's fit to print and some that's not.

Software: http://linux.tucows.com/, http://freshmeat.net/, and http://rpmfind.net/
You should be able to find any software you need with these links.

Usenet: There are various newsgroupsthat deal with both Linux in general and specific distributions.
(If you don't have access to a news server or want to do some research on a specific topic go to http://groups.google.com )

Mail: There is a huge archive of mailing lists at http://geocrawler.com/

Search: Two excellent sites for searching on Linux  related issues are http://www.1stlinuxsearch.com/ and http://www.google.com/linux

These are just the tip of the iceberg, but should be enough to get you started.

2.2 Where do I get to know more about KDE?

The best place to to get information about KDE is at http://www.kde.org and by checking out the documentation.

In most Linux distributions this is in a sub folder under /usr/doc(note in some of the newer distros this has been moved to /usr/share/doc).

You might also want to check out the usenet group  comp.windows.x.kde

2.3 Where do I get to know more about GNOME?

Start at the top http://gnome.org

For a very polished and easy to install version go to www.ximian.com
Ximian has really made great strides in useability for the average Linux user.

2.4 What about books on Linux?

Get at least a couple of books I highly recommend Linux in a nutshell. The other book should probably be about the distribution you are going to use.

For example the RedHat Bible, Slackware Linux Unleashed, Learning Debian GNU/Linux, or Sams Teach Yourself Mandrake Linux in 24 Hours

2.5 What about this UNIX thing I keep hearing about?

Online: Unix Introductory course offered here (http://wks.uts.ohio-state.edu/unix_course/unix.html) and the FAQ for comp.unix.questions located here (http://www.faqs.org/faqs/unix-faq/faq/).

(and after having seen that you will laugh at the size of this FAQ :0)

SAMS publishing has an online version of Unix Unleashed (http://pluto.phys.nwu.edu/%7Ezhaoyj/learn/Unix-internet/toc.htm) it's a bit old but still a good read.

2.6 Where can I get Linux?

You can purchase it online at several stores

Or you can download an iso image and burn your own copy (this requires a CD_Burner)
